Welcome to Little Fin Photography
Growing up on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, I experienced a lively, colorful childhood filled with never ending beach days, late evenings coloring on our back deck, building blocks of scrap wood from homes my dad built, and an instilled value of the art of imagination and creativity.
At the age of 4, while in Sunday School, I colored an incredibly detailed image of the beach, complete with sailboats, fishing lures, crab holes, and a sunset. My parents, perplexed over the accuracy I had portrayed of the childhood life I was observing, began encouraging every artistic venture you could imagine, and pushed me to create what I felt. This began an entire elementary career of paintings, colorings, and everything art.
My love for photography began in college. After my first darkroom photography class, I became absolutely mesmerized by photography. I studied images and their light, shadows, darks, and eventually, color. Many nights were spent in the photo lab pouring over negatives and physically developing images. The biggest allure of photography was that the instances and feelings I had to observe & recreate in a painting could accurately be instantaneously stopped. I received a BA in Graphic Design and a minor in Studio Art from Meredith College, knowing that my photography would eventually take the forefront in my life.
During my last 2 years of college, I worked for a local Raleigh photographer and soon realized how much she adored her career. Every day was special and unique, interacting with so many different families on such a personal level. This inspired me to begin shooting children and families and I fell in love with it. Capturing the instants that you can never get back with your children truly is priceless. To be able to preserve a child’s innocence and individuality in mere seconds with my lens is incredibly rewarding. Children grow and change every single day, and it is an honor to be able to “freeze” that moment in time.
In 2014, I took a chance and began to expand my photography to include engagements and weddings. Much to my surprise, I absolutely adore interacting with couples. I began to manipulate my experience of photographing the connection of a family, and apply it to couples, only to witness an even deeper energy and love between the two. Photographing the time of engagement and marriage is incredibly fulfilling, and I am grateful to develop this area of my work.
I photograph children, families, and couples in all stages of life. Every session is an opportunity to connect with your family and bring out the best moments of your life.
